Clare Community Games

The Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games calendar of events for 2011 is summarised below. Click on the Results and/or Draw links to access details. County Athletics Finals are on Sunday 26th June, Lees Road. As this is the 40th Anniversary of Community Games in County Clare, this promises to be a momentous occasion, not to be missed!

Rory Chesser originates from Ennis St John's area in County Clare. He recently represented Ireland in the European Cross Country championships in August & September.  His career highlights to date include: Irish National Champion 3000m Steeple Chase  (2008, 2009); Irish University Champion 3000m Steeple Chase and 5000m (2008); Second in Irish World Junior XC Trial (2006).  He has represented Ireland in Cross Country and Track events on many occasions. Rory and all his family took part in Community Games events at Area, County and National level and three of his younger brothers represented Clare in Athlone in 2009. On Community Games, he quotes: Your athletic future too, can start here, mine did. The Community Games is a fantastic organisation, keep with it!  We wish him continued success in his athletic career.

The annual All Star Presentation and dance was held on Friday 15th October in the West County Hotel, Ennis. Music on the night was provided by Gerry Sexton with entertainment from the Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry Variety Group and the Carrigaholt/Cross All Ireland winning Set Dancing Group.

The Golden Vale Milk Community Games Keep Clare Clean competition was judged in Waterpark House during Dec 2010. The Keep Clare Clean Environmental Competition for both boys and girls, which is supported by Clare County Council and Shannon Development, attracted a very large entry and the standard was extremely high, which made the judges’ decision difficult. The MC on the night was Kevin O’Loughlin, who welcomed everyone on behalf of Community Games.

Mayor of Clare, Christy Curtin congratulated all the children who participated and produced posters and poems to encourage everyone to keep the county clean and litter free.  He said he acknowledged and admired the work and time given by all the volunteers in Community Games and hoped they can broaden to every area of the county. He wished Clare Community Games the very best as they approach their 40th birthday.

Each year, from 1979 to date, a Hall of Fame Award is presented to a Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games volunteer for outstanding achievement and service.
