The Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games Cross-country U-10 4x250m relays and U-13 1,200m were held at the Lees Road Sports Complex on Sat 11th March. In total, 33 boys and 27 girls took part in the competitions, which were co-ordinated by Margaret McCarthy. The national finals will take place in Athlone on the weekend of May 27-29.

May National Finals
The Clare team went on to achieve great success in the May National Finals, with Jamie Roche, Ennis St John’s, winning the Individual U-13 Cross Country Boys U/13 1200m event. The team also won gold in the Mixed U13 team event: Elaine Shannon - Ennistymon/Lahinch/Liscannor, Caoimhe Harvey - Carrigaholt/Cross, Sharon Egan - Kilmihil, Shauna Melican - Kilkee, Sinead Hogan - Ennistymon/Lahinch/Liscannor, Jamie Roche - Ennis St John’s, Eoin Looney - Miltown Malbay, Patrick O’Rourke, Ennistymon/Lahinch/Liscannor, Cathal O’Brien, Killian McDermott - Clarecastle/Ballyea. Shauna Melican - Kilkee - won bronze in the individual event and Caoimhe Harvey - Carrigaholt/Cross - won a 4th place medal.

The Cross Country competition caters for the Under 13 age group, with a mixed panel comprising 5 boys and 5 girls. This is both a team and an individual competition.
All 10 competitors on the panel compete over a distance of 1,200 metres and the team score is compiled using the scores of the top 4 boys and top 4 girls in each team.
Competitors must be under the age limit on 31st July in the year of competition.

Areas compete in the County competition aftter which the County panel is selected to go on to the Finals in Athlone in May.
