County Hurling 2012 Print

The Clare Community Games hurling competition took place in Gurteen on Sunday 13th May in ideal conditions.  It was co-ordinated by Pat Leamy from Quin/Clooney.  The standard of competition was extremely high with some very close contested matches.  There was some brilliant displays of hurling skills and sportsmanship displayed during the day.  A very strong Doora/Barefield team came out winners from Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry with Ennis St John’s pipping Clarecastle/Ballyea for the bronze medals.  Doora/Barefield now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster finals on 14th July in U.L.

About Hurling Print

The Hurling competition caters for U/11 (and over 8) boys. A Panel consists of 20, with 15 players with minimum of 12 players on field at all times.

Competitors must be under the age limit on 31st July in the year of competition.

Full Hurling rules are available for download from the Community Games website.

County winners progress to the Munster Finals in July and the Provincial winners progress to the National Finals in Athlone on the second weekend in August, usually towards the end of August.

The Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games hurling competition took place on Sunday 22 May at Gurteen, coordinated by Pat Leamy with referees Anthony McCarthy & John Dolan. The conditions were ideal and the standard was high with some very close encounters as all teams were seeking the opportunity to represent Clare in the Munster finals in July.  Some of the children displayed brilliant skills.  In the quarter finals Doora/Barefield were beaten by Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry, Newmarket-on-Fergus were beaten by Ennis and Clarecastle/Ballyea beat Corofin.  In the semi finals Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry and Ennis was a very close contest with Ennis edging ahead to win by a 2 point margin.  Clarecastle/Ballyea seemed the much stronger when they overcame Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly.  The final was a hard fought battle between ennis and their near neighbour Clarecastle/Ballyea.  Clarecastle/Ballyea came out the winners and the opportunity to represent Clare in Munster.

Hurling 2010 Print

The Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games Hurling competition took place on Saturday 15th of May at St Flannans College Ennis in ideal weather conditions.  The Co-ordinator Adrian Hogan from Kilmurry Sixmilebridge did an excellent job. All matches were run off very efficiently and on time.  There were some very good & exciting matches.  The referees on the day were Brian McDonnell of Kilmaley, Kevin McNamara of Sixmilebridge & Noel McInerney of Newmarket-on-Fergus and they all did a great job.  In the quarter finals Newmarket-on-Fergus got a walkover from Derg.  Shannon were beaten by a much stronger Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry. Clarecastle/Ballyea beat Kilmaley while Doora/Barefield beat Ennis by 1 point in extra time.   In the semi-finals Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry beat Newmarket and Clarecastle/Ballyea beat Doora/Barefield.  The final was a very exciting and tough match with Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry coming out as winners 5-4 to 2-2.  Sixmilebridge went on to represent Clare in the Munster finals in July where they secured Silver medals.  The medals were presented by Clare hurler Colin Ryan.
