The Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games hurling competition took place on Sunday 22 May at Gurteen, coordinated by Pat Leamy with referees Anthony McCarthy & John Dolan. The conditions were ideal and the standard was high with some very close encounters as all teams were seeking the opportunity to represent Clare in the Munster finals in July. Some of the children displayed brilliant skills. In the quarter finals Doora/Barefield were beaten by Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry, Newmarket-on-Fergus were beaten by Ennis and Clarecastle/Ballyea beat Corofin. In the semi finals Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry and Ennis was a very close contest with Ennis edging ahead to win by a 2 point margin. Clarecastle/Ballyea seemed the much stronger when they overcame Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly. The final was a hard fought battle between ennis and their near neighbour Clarecastle/Ballyea. Clarecastle/Ballyea came out the winners and the opportunity to represent Clare in Munster.
