Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games were represented by 30 Teams in the Munster Finals on July 10th, which was hosted by the Clare Executive under the Games Director, Mary Lenihan of Crusheen/Ballinruan. Ennis St John’s were represented by 7 Teams, Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry by 5, Cooraclare/Cree, Clarecastle/Ballyea & Quin/Clooney 3 each, Kilmihil, Cratloe & Kilkishen/O’Callaghans Mills/Oatfield 2 Each, Kilrush, Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly & Doora/Barefield 1 each.
Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games did extremely well, winning 7 team events and 1 individual event in Judo. All the competitions were held in U.L. except the Pitch & Putt, which was held in the Clare Road Club in Ennis, coordinated by Jimmy Maher of Quin/Clooney. The weather conditions were atrocious with extremely heavy rain, but that failed to dampen the spirits.
The beaten finalists in Munster competitions received silver medals and Clare had 6 teams with silver medals. Ennis St John’s won 4 Gold & 1 Silver, Clarecastle/Ballyea & Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry both won 2 Gold & 1 Silver, Cooraclare/Cree, Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly & Quin/Clooney each winning 1 Silver. Many of the Clare Teams were very narrowly defeated in the semi finals. Well done to all our competitors and many thanks to all adult and youth volunteers who helped to make it a successful occasion.
All gold medal winners in Munster qualify for the National Finals to be held in Athlone I.T. in August. All photographs and consent forms etc to be forwarded to County Secretary before Monday next 19th July.
