What is the Community Games All Stars?
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games All Stars award night is traditionally one of the highlights of the Clare Community Games calendar. This annual event, which includes a sit down meal, has been taking place for many years and it serves a number of purposes: -
It provides an opportunity to celebrate the successes of Clare Community Games participants and adult volunteers over the course of the season.
It provides an opportunity for Clare Community Games and its main sponsor, St Francis Credit Union, to receive some good PR across press and social media.
It provides an opportunity for families and volunteers involved in Community Games across County Clare to come together.
Each year, approximately 50-60 All Star awards are presented to selected participants. As they are presented, a few words are said about the participant. Usually a number of sporting guest stars are invited to speak and to help present the awards. In the past, some of the Talent/Choir participants also provide some entertainment. The awards night is also used to present the following awards:-
Area Athletics Trophy, for overall best area in County Athletics Finals.
The International Police Association for Best Large Area, for area with highest number of participants over all county events (based on ORS data).
Small Area Award Trophy, for best smaller area with highest number of participants over all county events (based on ORS data).
Adult Volunteer "Hall of Fame" award, selected by County Executive.
Chairperson's award to a participant who embodies the spirit of Community Games, selected by current County Chairperson.
The All Star Committee has responsibility for selecting the All Star recipients from the list of nominees based broadly on the following criteria: -
Team Events: Best competitor of competition/event is nominated by referee in conjunction with co-ordinator at county and is not necessarily from the winning team. If no competition at county in team event, an All Star is nominated by team manager at Munster or National. Where there is more than one age group in a competition, and where the number of teams entered does not justify an all star for each age group, then one All Star is selected to cover all age groups.
Individual Events: All Stars are selected after National Finals by executive, based on performance at National Event.
Relays/Squads: No All Star is selected from athletics and swimming relays.
Currently Clare Community Games is the only county in Ireland, to our knowledge, which has an All Star Award ceremony. The All Star event is generally cost neutral as the ticket price includes dinner and a small charge which covers the additional costs (i.e. the All Star Trophies, which are sourced and manufactured locally and have a unique Clare Community Games design).
